This 1 ½ day free course is designed to assist food regulation, law enforcement, and industry personnel in the prevention and deterrence of terrorist and criminal acts that target the food industry. Participants will learn to use the CARVER + Shock method to perform detailed vulnerability assessments of agricultural facilities. The realistic, hands-on training incorporates videos of actual facilities and interactive case studies with practical exercises. You learn to assess vulnerabilities on a community and individual facility level, and to identify and implement mitigation measures to reduce vulnerabilities. This is a DHS Certified agroterrorism course offered free
of charge. The goal of this course is to demonstrate how an effective
frontline emergency response can reduce or mitigate the effects of an
agricultural emergency, an act of agroterrorism or other food systems
disaster. In so doing, frontline agricultural and public safety
response teams including personnel from the county, regional, state and
federal agencies will be provided with a comprehensive program formed around
the principles of the Incident Command System (ICS) and the concept of
Unified Command. This course includes a plan that can be used as an
"all hazards" approach against a wide variety of potential problems
and occurrences within the agricultural community. Individuals who
complete this course will be motivated to form and maintain appropriate
community frontline response teams.

Tuition: $150
A basic introduction to disaster response and disaster planning for animals. Topics covered: incident command system, emergency animal sheltering, animal behavior and handling, legal issues, communications, working with volunteers, media relations, worker health and safety, stress management, and many others. This is the full 20-hour course developed by The Humane Society of the United States. The HSUS issues a Certification of DART Training on successful completion of the course. Target audiences: DART teams and volunteers; animal control officers; animal shelter employees and volunteers; SART members; veterinarians and vet techs; local Humane Society volunteers; boarders and groomers; animal responders.
Registration and Payment
Tuition: $150. Includes snacks, drinks, coffee, and a three-ring binder with extensive reference materials. Meals and accommodations are on your own.
